<br />Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) <br />The Survey is a technical support agency to other State agencies and local governments in the areas of "Natural <br />Hazards" and "Mineral Resources." The Survey was created by a Ii>w'enacted by the 16th General Assembly on April <br />24. 1907.ln their geologic hazards identitication programs, theCGS takes into account the issues ot tloods and <br />natural floodplains. <br /> <br />Programs of Interest to Floodplain Managers <br />1) Assistance and consultation with other State and local governmental agencies on geologic problems <br />2) Performance of studies to develop geological information <br />3) Collection and preservation of geologic information <br />The CGS works closely with the CWCB and the State Engineer's Office on water and flood-related problems. <br />For More Information Contact: <br />Colorado Geological Survey <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 715 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />(303) 866-2611 <br /> <br />Colorado Division of Disaster Emergency Services (DODES) <br />The Colorado General Assembly enacted House Bill 1600, called the "Colorado Disaster Emergency Act of 1 973." <br />to address disasters within the state. This act created DODES under the Department of Military Affairs. The Colorado <br />Disaster Emergency Act of 1973 declares that funds shall always be available to meet emergency situations follow- <br />ing a flood. <br />Programs of Interest to FlOOdplain Managers <br />1) Mitigation <br />2) Preparedness <br />3) Response <br />4) Recovery <br />DODES is responsible for coordinating the work of other State agencies in these four areas. Statutory authorities <br />are less strong in the area of mitigation than in the other three areas. These authorities have been strengthened in <br />recent years through Executive Orders. The authorities are to coordinate the work of other agencies. The Division <br />has prepared the Colorado Natural Disaster Emergency Operation Plan, which details response activities of State <br />agencies during emergencies. <br />By Executive Order, DODES has responsibility to oversee the preparedness and emergency planning work of local <br />governments.
