The technical appendix includes detailed de- <br /> <br /> <br />scriptions of the optimization studies, design data, and <br /> <br /> <br />economics of the selected plan. An environmental impact <br /> <br /> <br />statement has been prepared to accompany this report. <br /> <br />PRIOR STUDIES AND REPORTS <br /> <br />The report under review, a survay report on the South Platte <br /> <br /> <br />River and Tributaries, Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska was com- <br /> <br /> <br />pleted in August 1945. The report was subsequently printed as <br /> <br /> <br />House Document No. 669, 80th Congress, 2nd Session and projects <br /> <br />recommended in the survey report were authorized by the Flood <br /> <br /> <br />Control Act of 1950. The report recommended: (1) construction <br /> <br /> <br />of Chatfield Reservoir on the South Platte River south of Denver, <br /> <br /> <br />(2) a continuous levee system along both banks of the South <br /> <br /> <br />Platte River between Chatfield Reservoir and St. Vrain Creek, <br /> <br /> <br />except within the city of Denver where the channel had been <br /> <br /> <br />previously improved by the city, (3) levees and channel improve- <br /> <br />ments where needed on the South Platte River Between St. Vrain <br /> <br /> <br />Creek and Fort Morgan, (4) channel improvements at Boulder, <br /> <br /> <br />Colorado, and (5) a levee at Erie, Colorado. Construction of <br /> <br /> <br />Chatfield Dam started in 1967 and the project is nearly com- <br /> <br /> <br />plete. The Erie flood control project was deauthorized in 1961. <br /> <br /> <br />The remaining projects were reevaluated and the results are <br /> <br />contained in Volume III C. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />J <br />
