The Renohill-Buick-Little Association is

characterized by: slow water absorption; rapid runoff; and high water hold-

ing capac ity.

The basic bedrock formation under the basins is the Denver formation,

a series of sandstone, siltstone, and claystone beds between five to 15

feet below surface. Aquifer recharge is probably minimal.

Recreation and Park District.

Future basin development is based upon the latest Littleton and Ara-

pahoe County Land Use Plans as well as the South Suburban Parks Master Plan,

which envisions a linear park along the Gulch from the South Platte to

County Line Road. The area around Broadway and Mineral Avenue is planned

for industrial and commercial uses with low and medium residential develop-

ment being anticipated for the remainder of the basin.

LEE GULCH

LITTLE CREEK

1~ Description: Lee Gulch is a steep sided ravine meandering in its natural

state through a developing area dropping from an elevation of 5780 feet to

5340 feet in 3.98 miles. The basin has a total area of 2.42 square miles.

The channel is well defined and passes through predominately agricultural

land from County Line Road to Broadway. It then passes through both developed

and isolated agricultural areas to its confluence with the South Platte at

about Peakview Street (extended).

There are six major street and two main line railroad crossings of the

Gulch and two agricultural ditches are carried over the Gulch in flumes; the

Highline Canal in the upper reaches and the City Ditch in the lower reaches.

The Highline Canal interc('~)ts part of Lhe overland flows from the southern

portion of the basin. A tributary enters the main branch of the Gulch

just upstream of the Highline Canal.

2. Development: At the present time the Lee Gulch drainage basin is ap-

proximately 42% developed. The land usage is generally single family resi-

dential with some industrial development near Broadway. The area from

Broadway to County Line Road is undeveloped agricultural land. Downstream

of the llif, hline Canal much of the land adjacent to the Culch itself is a

greenbelt or linear park administered by the South Suburban Metropolitan

1. Description: Little Creek begins south of East Dry Creek Road and joins

the South Platte at a point south of Bowles Avenue, falling from an elevation

of 5715 feet to 5320 feet in 4.91 miles. The basin has a total area of 2.73

square miles. The channel is not clearly identifiable from East Dry Creek

Road to the Highline Canal and froD Sterne Park to the South Platte and has

been heavily encroached upon in these areas. From the Canal to Sterne Park

the Creek has been improved to a rip rap lined and grass lined channel.

The Highline Canal intercepts the storm flows from the upper reaches where

a storm drain system discharges directly into the canal, in the lower reach

the channel discharges directly into the City Ditch at Bemis Street. There

are numerous street crossings and two main line railroad crossings.

2. Development: The Little Creek drainage basin is presently approximately

98% developed, and development has begun in the remainder of the basin. The

land usage upstream of Sterne Park is generally single family residential

with a concentration of commercial and high density residential along Broad-

way. From the railroad tracks to the South Platte the land use varies from

commercial and industrial to relatively high density residential.

Future basin development is based upon the latest master plans for Little-

ton and Arapahoe County. The planned land use is generally single family

residential in the upper portions of the bas~ and commercial/industrial in

the lower.

-4-
