!
!I

Later attempts will be made above the City of Greeley on the Cache La
Poudre River as soon as proper planning and equipment are available. In
this present attempt, as well as any future plans, atraightening of channels
and sizing will be undertaken only where feasible and necessary.

It is recognized by all concerned that the long range planning as out-
lined by the Corps of E~gineers is very necessary and vital to the area,
and our attempts would be. more of a stop-gap measure. However, with proper
guidance and control the plans as outlined wi1l. serve until such time as
the total plans as proposed by the Cor~s of Engineers are undertaken.

,;
,
t:

Of number one importance in Weld County would be the Platte River.
The river bed itself has been a1l.owed to deteriorate to such an extent that
in places it is only 30% effective. What we would propose to do on the
Platte is to first clean' the channel and remove all the dead trees, sand-
bars, and the myriad of other objects within its banks. Then an interim'
system of dikes and levees, pr repair of those already existing, with
proper protection would ~e installed particularly In t~e area between th&
Weld-Adams County Line and the convergence with the St. Vrain River as has
been previously proposed by the Corps of Engineers. ,
. '

, ,
As soan as this ha~.beeh completed, a;yearly maintenance program
would be instituted. This phase wou.ld/'be the key to die total programs
success, as any program without it wou d be foolhardy.

Similar programs orl Boulder Creeki St; Vrain, 6ig:Thompson, Cache La
Poudre Rivers, and perhaps even some of the smaller tributaries would be
undertaken and encompassed into the over all maintena~ce program. If this
program is instituted i~ is hot inconceivable that the maintenance program
would be year round with, the major portions being done in the winter months
during low water. '

, ,
Such a program as this is necessary, in fact almost. ,;,ital to thE! groWth
and future economy in Weld County. Re40rds showing dan\a9~s and costs are
included In this report to illustrate this point. Water ~ecords, as nec.
essary, are included to help support tHe the need.

Coord'inatlo;;,t

i
I.

I' I.,., . I' .' These will be broken
down in catagories for purposes of illustration.
