<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Purpose <br /> <br />Eligibility Requirements <br /> <br />Eligible Activities <br /> <br />How to Apply for a Planning Grant <br /> <br />The purpose of FMA planning grants is to assist local communities in <br />developing and updating Flood Risk Mitigation Plans. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Eligible applicants for FMA Planning Grants are: <br /> <br />Communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program, <br />excluding those on probation. Suspended communities and those that <br />have withdrawn from the program are not eligible to apply for a <br />planning gran~ <br /> <br />Flood Mitigation Assistance funds are limited to only those local <br />jurisdiction enrolled in the National Flood Insurance Program, AND IN <br />GOOD STANDING, because: <br /> <br />I. A major goal of FMA is to reduce claims on the National Flood <br />Insurance Fund. FMA will reduce national flood insurance claims <br />only ifFMA funds mitigation measures that reduce or eliminate the <br />long-term risk of flood damage to buildings, manufactured homes, <br />and other NFIP insured structures, <br /> <br />2. Providing FMA grants to participating communities encourages <br />participation and consistency among programs. <br /> <br />3. FMA funding comes from the National Flood Insurance Fund, <br />which is made up of insurance premiums paid by NFIP policy <br />holders. A grant program that is funded by national flood insurance <br />policyholders should benefit communities that participate in the <br />NFIP. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Examples of eligible activities a Planning Grant can fund include: <br /> <br />. Conducting local planning discussions <br /> <br />. Hiring a planner, contractor, engineer <br /> <br />. Surveying structures at risk <br /> <br />. Assessing repetitive losses <br /> <br />· Conducting flood studies, mapping <br /> <br />Other activities may be eligible for reimbursement.
