For this reason, urban occupation of the flood plains of the <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />nation's streams has commanded greater public attention and concern. <br /> <br />However, the obvious necessity of prudent use of the flood plains <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />cannot be achieved without adequate information on flood hazards. In <br /> <br />the Flood Control Act of 1960, Congress authorized a.national program <br /> <br />of flood plain information.
