<br />Gray Reef Dam and Glenrock, Wyom:lng and from the State line <br />to North Platte, Nebraska, where the North Platte and South <br />Platte Rivers converge. The ext'~nded. warming trend throughout <br />the North Platte R:lver basin resulted in continuing snowmelt <br />runoff during the remainder of M!~y and through the ronth of <br />June. The river between Alcova Dam a,nd. Glendo Reservoir <br />remained at or near bankfull during ,June, <br /> <br />h. Platte Ri'Ter basin. ,'lows from the North Platte and <br />South Platte Riverl3 joined to produce record or near-record <br />flows on the Platte River in Nebraska. Ai3 early as 9 May 1973, <br />lowland flooding was occurring along the latter stream from <br />Brady to Gothenburll. Thousands of acres of cropland were <br />damaged, and a number of farm farnil ies were evacuated from <br />various locations along the rivel~. local interests at the <br />communities of Brady, Cozad, and Gothenburg constructed <br />emergency levees with technical !~ssirstance from the Corps of <br />Engineers. <br /> <br />i. Loss of l:lfe. Ten drowllings were reported by the <br />news media. It was not established, however, whether all of <br />them were direct flood-related inc idents. In addition to the <br />two lives lost in the flash flooding which occurred J.n Wyoming, <br />seven persons were reported drowned in the Denver area, and B. <br />man lost his life :In the South Platte River when his canoe <br />overturned. There was also an unconfirmed report of a man <br />being drowned in the North Platt.~ River near Scottsbluff. <br /> <br />j. Urban areas affected. Urban flood damages were <br />concentrated in and around the Denve:r metropolitan region. <br />Communities most seriously affec1,ed were the cities of Englewood, <br />Kersey, Arvada, Edgewater, Wheatridge, Boulder, and Littleton, <br />plus the smaller communities of 1figgins, Wattenburg, Ft.
