Lost wages, ruined
clothes, shoes were not calculated by the volunteers.
200 gallons of gasoline were used by fire equipment
Trucks all had to have extens ive clean-up, for addit ional
costs in water, ti~e, and cleaning supplies. Food and coffee were
donated by many businesses and individuals but costs were never figured.
But, if a figure of $10 per day per fireman were used for 3 meals,
costs for 3 days would have been $ 500.00
Police Chief Bob Halbert stated some of the costs to his department were
patrol cars that had to be towed because of the mud packing around the wheels,
Patrol cars having to be washed regularly, at a cost of
$40 to $60 for towing/washing per car for 5 cars $
Uniforms for 15 officers for 2 days had to be cleaned @ $5/ea $
Police had to be at the various locations for several days to keep
sightseers away. Bob had an asthma attack caused by the dust so had to have
~edical attention. Food costs were $200.00 since a meal has to be supplied
after four hours of work. Officers on call, staying by a phone, are also paid.
Those allowed to move around are not paid on call.
At least ten pairs of regulation boots had to be replaced
because of all the foot patrolling in mud, water, debris @ $45/pair $ 450,00
Costs that are difficult to figure on a dollar basis are the loss of the
sewer olant's use for twenty four hours, necessitating reports filed with the
Colorado State Health Oepartment as well as any water users downstream for the
City of Glenwood Springs. Notification to avoid the contaminated \~ater had to
be placed in area newspapers and on radio and TV stations.

$

150.00

250.00
150,00
