<br />as the consequence of sediment deposition. There are eleven <br />privately-owned ditch systems in the area. involving some 25,700 <br />acres of land that have water rights. The Model System is the only <br />one of these having a storage reservoir or storage rights. The <br />Reclamation irrigation plan would reduce the acreage to be served <br />from the Trinidad Reservoir to about 19,700 acres of irrigable land. <br />The difference of some 6,000 acres represents low-quality lands <br />classified as nonirrigable by Bureau of Reclamation standsrds. <br />Plan of Dave 10lJlllent <br />The Trinidsd Dam and Reservoir will be constructed by the <br />Corps of Engineers. The reservoir will have a total capacity of <br />114,500 acre-feet of which 51,000 is allocated to flood control, <br />20,000 to irrigation, 4,500 for a permanent fishery pool, and 39,000 <br />for sediment retention. <br />First costs allocated to irrigation will be repaid over a <br />75-year period by the Purgatoire River Water Conservancy District. <br />Local interests will be required to make a cash contribution toward <br />construction and contribute toward maintanance and operation of the <br />project. <br />Status of Develo):l:llent <br />Funds have been appropriated for the initiation of construc- <br />tion Which can be \l1ldertaken as soon as negotiations on the irri- <br />gation repayment contract are consummated.
