Clothing. shelter. ~dical attention and such <br />items as false teeth. prescription ~dicines. eyeglasses. art- <br />1ffcfal limbs. etc. Ivail.ble through Red Cross; <br /> <br />DIGEST OF KEY <br />DISASTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS <br /> <br />. -i ~,' <br /> <br />- <br />PART A: INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />-- Financial assistance with home repair or replacement of essential <br />household items through the Red Cross; <br /> <br />-- Food. clothing and financial assistance for immediate needs <br />through the Salvation A~; <br /> <br />-- Skilled and unskilled labor for debris removal and/or home repair <br />and rehabilftat10n through the Mennonfte Disaster Service; <br /> <br />-- Other emergency assistance programs available through private <br />relief agencies including Church World Service. Seventh Day Adventist <br />and local private sources. <br /> <br />2. FOOD STAMPS - Food coupons ~y I State Igency such as Social Services <br />or Welfare Department. <br /> <br />--.Funded by the FOOd and Nutrition Service (USDA). <br />, <br /> <br />-- Applicant must verify income and document need. <br /> <br />3. TEMPORARY HOUSING - Administered by FEMA .nd/~r designated State agency; <br />funded by FEMA. Assistance may include: <br /> <br />-- Transient accommodations such IS hotels. motels. etc.; <br /> <br />-- Existing rental resources (apartments. houses. trailers. etc.) or <br />government-owned dwellings. as available. for those whose primary <br />residences are uninhabitable as a result of the dfsaster. This <br />assfstance is rent free for up to one year; <br /> <br />-- If existing resources Ire unavailable. government-owned mobile homes <br />may be placed on private. commercial. or government developed mobile <br />home sites; NOTE: these two forms of assistance are provided until <br />.ore pennanent housing is available. <br /> <br />- Emergency home repairs needed to return owner occupied primary <br />residences to habitable Ind safe condition; or <br /> <br />-- MOrtgage or rental assistance for those who have received written <br />notice of foreclosure or e~i=tion. as a result of I financial hard- <br />ship created by the disaster. <br /> <br />January 25. 1984 <br />
