The area <br />at station 213 + 00 and the section from Pecos Street to 96th Avenue Ore the two <br />sections requiring modificotion. <br /> <br />At some time in the post, 0 dam was constructed across the Niver Creek <br />main chonnel at approximately station 213 + 00 and the creek diverted into 0 by- <br />poss channel. The bypass channel has become the moin creek channel over the <br />years; however, for flows considerab Iy less than the 10-year flood flow, the water <br />will overtop the dam and both channels would function. The bypass channel is very <br />unsightly at present and has almost vertical side slopes in areas. These slopes ore <br />susceptible to undercutting and sliding. It is recommended that the creek be re- <br />turned to its historic channel by constructi ng an interconnected series of gabion <br />drop structures at the location of the old dam. This structure will produce 0 cas- <br />cade which could become the focal point of 0 greenbelt in the future. <br /> <br />The section of channel between Pecos Street and 96th Avenue is quite <br />steep and contai ns 0 number of existi ng gabion drop structures. The prob lem in <br />this section is that 96th Avenue parallels the creek on the north and the road <br />embankment is very steep. This road was completed in early 1974 and the embank- <br />ment slope has not grown over with vegetation to dote. Vegetation will never <br />cover the slope sufficiently to provide complete erosion control due to the fact <br />that maintenance of a grass cover is impossible. It is recommended that the <br />channel along 96th Avenue in this reach be protected with riprap. <br /> <br />Huron Street Crossing <br /> <br />The existing Huron Street culvert is adequate to poss the 10-year flood <br />flows; however, the 100-year flood wi II overtop the roadway. The consequences <br />of this overtopping are minor; therefore, the only recommended modification is <br />to provide riprap protection on the downstream side of the bridge. <br /> <br />111-11 <br />
