I

I

I

Reach selection was also based in part on the Arapahoe County/City of Littleton
boundary and field investigations.

The main problem associated with this reach is the damage due to excess

street flow and the lack of any storm sewer facilities,

I

I, REACH-A

4, REACH-D

I

Reach-A extends from the lower end of the study area, at Powers Park, to

the Littleton City limits located just east of Broadway. The entire reach is

serviced with a storm sewer system of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and

corragated metal pipe (CMP) ranging in diameter from 30-inches to 54-inches.

The general character of the reach is a concentration of commercial establish-

ments along the Broadway and Littleton Boulevard corridor interspersed with

single/multi family residences and apartment buildings.

Reach-D extends upstream from Caley Avenue up to the Denver Highline

Canal at Clarkson Street. The reach is presently occupied with the KBRQ radio

transmitter and transmission towers and Southwood Park.

I

Dmmages to the radio facility and park area are caused by

defined broad drainageway swale existing throughout the reach.

transmitter building was constructed in the drainageway,

the poorly
The radio

station

I

I

Behind the Taylor Rental Equipment building at the corner of Broadway and
Orchard is a cinder block wall which extends approximately 400-feet south. A
similar wall exists between the auto parts store and the vacent McDonalds Rest-
aurant building to the south. These walls are noted on Sheet 3 of the Master
Plan drawings. Since the walls extend across the drainageway, the limits of
the floodplain are greatly effected by the wall, Two floodplain conditions
corresponding to the wall removed and the wall in place were determined and
are shown on the drawings, The structural integrity of the wall was not deter-
mined.

5. REACH-E

Reach-E extends from the Denver Highline Canal to the upper end of the study

area at Arapahoe Avenue and Downing Street. The area is fully developed with

single family residences.'

I

I

I

The major problem area is along Downing Street where the existing IS-inch

reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) is inadequate for the 2-year storm resulting in

street flooding and some inundation of adjacent residences.

I

The major problem in this reach is the structure and content damage caused

by excessive surface flows during relatively frequent storms,

This reach was extended to Arapahoe Road by contract Purchase Order for

the purpose of Flood Hazard Area Delineation and extension of the proposed 5-

year storm system,

I

2, REACH-B

I

Reach-B extends upstream from the Littleton City limits to Grant Street,

The area is presently undeveloped and zoned for future residential development.

I

I

The major problem in this reach is the lack of any defined channel. Due

to lack of development, there is presently minimal damage potential in this

reach, Future development in this area could create significant new flood

damages if not properly regulated.

I

3. REACH-C

I

Reach-C extends upstream from Grant Street to Caley Avenue. The entire
reach is developed with single family residences.

-7-

I

-6-
