LOS GATOS CREEK - 1-5 REPLACEMENT BRIDGES

v. GENERAL CONCLUSIONS

A Level 2 analysis results in a quantitative assessment of stream
instability and scour,

B. If stream instability exists, a decision is made to either proc:eed to a
more detailed Level 3 evaluation, or to complete the design/scour
evaluation of the bridge or select and design countermeasures based on
Levels 1 and 2 assessment. The FHWA FESWMS and the Corps of
Engineers RMA-2V models are available for complex flow situations
requiring 2-dimensional modeling (Level 3),

C. For Level 3 water and sediment routing and aggradation/deglradation
studies, computer models such as the FHWA BRI-STARS and Corps of
Engineers HEC-6 models are available.

D. For very complex problems, physical hydraulic model studies can be
completed as a Level 3 analysis.

5.16
