<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />; <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />1.1 <br /> <br />Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in the Town of pagosa <br />Springs and the unincorporated areas of Archuleta county, Colorado, <br />and to aid in the administration of the National Flood Insurance <br />Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. Initial <br />use of this information will be to convert pagosa Springs and <br />Archuleta County to the regular program of flood insurance by the <br />Federal Insurance Administration. Further use of the information <br />will be made by local and regional planners in their efforts to <br />promote sound land use and flood plain development. <br /> <br />1.2 <br /> <br />Coordination <br /> <br />An initial coordination meeting was held on July 22, 1976, It was <br />attended by officials of the Town of pagosa Springs and Archuleta <br />County, as well as representatives of the Federal Insurance Adminis- <br />tration, the State Coordination Agency, the Colorado Water Conser- <br />vation Board, and the study contractor, <br /> <br />The reason for this meeting was to discuss the nature and purpose <br />of the study, the scope and limits of work, and flood information <br />currently available concerning the community. <br /> <br />Agencies providing information included the Colorado Water Conserva- <br />tion Board and the U,S. Soil Conservation Service, <br /> <br />Throughout the study, the results of the hydrologic analyses were <br />reviewed by the U,S, Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Geological <br />Survey, u.s. Soil Conservation Service, and Colorado Water Conserva- <br />tion Board. <br /> <br />Flood elevations, flood boundaries, and floodway delineations were <br />reviewed with community officials. <br /> <br />On October 25, 1977, the results of the study were reviewed at a <br />final community coordination meeting attended by personnel of the <br />Federal Insurance Administration, the study contractor, and the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board; officials of the Town of Pagosa <br />Springs; and officials of Archuleta County. The study was accepted <br />with a few minor changes that have been incorporated into this <br />study. <br />
