<br />The following agencies were contacted and supplied information <br />used in the preparation of this study: <br /> <br />U,S, Geological Survey <br />U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board (State Coordinator) <br />Colorado Department of Highways <br /> <br />The final community coordination meeting was held on March 28, <br />1983, and was attended by representatives of the Federal Emergency <br />Management Agency, the study contractor, and Montrose County. All <br />problems raised at this meeting have been resolved. <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study was revised in 1985 to add detailed <br />study along Cedar Creek in the vicinity of the City of Montrose <br />and along Montrose Arroyo at its confluence with Cedar Creek. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the unincorporated areas of Montrose <br />County, Colorado. The area of study is shown on the Vicinity Map <br />(Figure 1), <br /> <br />Areas studied by detailed and approximate methods are shown in <br />Tables 1 and 2, respectively. <br /> <br />Those areas studied by detailed methods were chosen with considera- <br />tion given to all proposed construction and forecasted development <br />through 1990, <br /> <br />Approximate analyses were used to study those areas having a low <br />development potential or minimal flood hazards. The scope and <br />methods of study were proposed to and agreed upon by the Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency and Montrose County. <br /> <br />2,2 Community Description <br /> <br />Montrose County is located in the west-central portion of Colorado <br />and contains approximately 2,229 square miles of land. The City <br />of Montrose is located in the eastern portion of Montrose County <br />and is the largest city in the county as well as the county seat. <br />Other incorporated cities and towns in Montrose include the Towns <br />of Naturita, Olathe. and Nucla, Counties adjacent to Montrose <br />County include Gunnison, OUray, Delta, Mesa, and San Miguel, all <br />of which are located in Colorado. San Juan and Grand Counties, <br />located in Utah, are also adjacent to Montrose County. <br /> <br />The Ute Indians were the first inhabitants of western Colorado, <br />In 1868, the Utes were relocated to a reservation that included <br /> <br />2 <br />
