FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY
CITY AND COUNTY OF
BROOMFIELD, COLORADO

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose of Study

This Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report revises and updates a
previous FIS/Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for the City of
Broomfield, in Adams, Boulder, and Jefferson Counties, Colorado.
This information will be used by the City of Broomfield to update
existing floodplain regulations as part of the Regular Phase of the
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The information will also
be used by local and regional planners to further promote sound land
use and floodplain development.

In some states or corrnnunities, floodplain management criteria or
regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive
than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more
restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other
jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them.

1,2 Authority and Acknowledgments

The sources of authority for this FIS are the National Flood
Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973.

performed by Greiner Engineering Sciences, Inc., Denver, Colorado,
for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) , under Contract
No, EMW-83-C-11-73, This study was completed in March 1985.

1.3 Coordination

The initial coordination meeting was held in the City of Broomfield
on April 26, 1983, This meeting, attended by representatives of the
.City of Broomfield, Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWeB), Urban
Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD), and study contractor
(SC), was held to discuss the nature and purpose of the study and
the scope and limits of work.

2.0 AREA STUDIED

2.1 Scope of Study

This FIS covers the incorporated areas of the City of Broomfield, in
Adams, Boulder, and Jefferson Counties, Colorado.
