<br />To cover fiscal, legal and administrajcive expenses, we have <br />included in the capital cost an allo~ance of 10 percent of <br />the combined construction, engineeri~q and contingencieE: <br />estimates. <br /> <br />Maintenance Costs <br /> <br />Maintenance is most importmle for a Jra~nage and flood con- <br />trol system after it is constructed, and should be included <br />for financing a drainage ar~ flood contzDl system. The <br />basis of maintenance costs for drainaqe and flood control <br />facilities is listed in Table 10. ;\rmual maintenance costs <br />are presented in Appendix A for each s:eqnent. <br /> <br />Detention Pond Maintenance: Once the construction of a de- <br />tention pond is complet:ed and a good sod cover has d,~veloped, <br />a detention pond requires a minimum of maintenance. <br /> <br />Debris removal is required wl1enev'~r high watE,r occurs. <br />Regular inspections of the ponds should be made to spot <br />needed repairs. Rills or waEihes on I:he dam and spillway should <br />be filled, compacted, and reEiodd,ed. Gra,,;s on thEl dam should <br />be m:Jwed, watered and fertili.zE"jl:o promote c!ood :r:oot. growth. <br />Inspections should be made to check for slouc!hi:nc! or cracking <br />clue to high water.
