CONS~~RADO WATER
On May 9, tl}e Division of Disaster Emergency Services hosted a m'l!!e\fll.~N>E/OARD
federal and state agencies to re-assess the April 12 estimate of the potential

METS RELE.l\SE

threat of floQding in the state during the Spring runoff. The average depth

of snowpack acrosss the state increased during April due to above average

snowfall and lower than normal temperatures. Thus, conditions at this date

are very similar to those of a year ago. Although Colorado rarely experiences

flood emergencies from runoff alone, heavy rainfall added to the runoff can

produce damaging floods.

On a scale of high, medium and low the group assessed the threat of flooding

to be high on 12 rivers and =eeks. They are:

(1) West of the Continental Divide

(a) Blue River in Summit County

(b) Crystal River in Gunnison and Garfield Counties

(c) upper RJ.ver in Gunnison and Garfield Counties

(d) Uncompahgre River in Ouray, Montrose and Delta Counties

(e) Lower reach of the Colorado River and Plateau creek in Mesa Co.
