Both OODES staff and Water <br />ConservatIon Board staff have been on-sHe to assIst 'n flood-Hght <br />preparatIons, damage assessments, and recommend possIble engIneerIng <br />actIons to prevent further damage. The state EngIneer and DIvIsIon <br />EngIneers contInue to monltor the condItIons of the state's reservoIrs <br />and non-publ1c works facl1lt1es In unIncorporated areas. <br /> <br />On AprIl 3D, 19B4, Governor Lamm requested assIstance from the <br />U.S. Army Corps of Eng1neers, Sacramento Oistr1ct, under P.L. 99 to <br />assist in both advance measures and flood-f1ght actlv1tles on the <br />Western Slope. Grand Junction staff of the Corps have provided <br />assIstance 1n bullding dIkes, contracted heavy equIpment to assist <br />local and state crews, Imported 100,000 sand bags from Kansas City to <br />Grand JunctIon, and prov'ded sand for sand bag operatIons and rlprap. <br /> <br />On May 15, 19B4, Governor Lamm r"equested assIstance from the <br />Albuquerque Distr'ct of the U.S. Army Corps of Eng'neers for potential <br />floodIng In southern Colorado. Representat'ves of the Corps Inspected <br />the Arkansas RIver Bas'n and potent'ally affected areas 1n Costllla, <br />Saguache, Fremont and Chaffee count'es last weekend. The majorHy of <br />the flood threat appears to have passed In these areas. The Corps Is <br />on alert for any further assIstance 'f requested. <br /> <br />On May 24, 1984, Governor Lamm requested ass 1 stance from the <br />Omaha O'strlct of the U.S. Army Corps of EngIneers who are presently <br />on a stand-by basls. The state 15 monHorlng streamflows on all <br />front-range and eastern tolorado streams. Whlle major floodIng does <br />not appear 'mmlnent, many creeks and rIvers may be runnIng at capacIty <br />over the next several days.
