<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />1. 0 INTRODUCT.ION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood! Insurance. Study is to investi- <br />gate the existence and severity of flood hazards in the <br />City of Littleton, Arapahoe County, Colorado, and to aid <br />in the administration of the National Flood Insurance <br />Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of <br />1973. Initial use of this information "Till be to <br />convert Littleton to the .regular program of flood <br />insurance by the Federal :Insurance Administration. <br />Further use of the information will be made by local ~ <br />and regional planners in their efforts to promote <br />sound land use and flood plain development. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />The Director of Community Services supplied zoning and <br />corporate boundary maps on potential flooding areas. <br />The city engineer and Director of Public Works supplied <br />city benchmark data, details of storm sewers, two-foot <br />contour mapping of Slaughterhouse Gulch, and channel <br />improvement plans. Seve#al conferences were held with <br />the city staff. <br /> <br />The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, <br />supplied base maps, hydrologic data, and information on <br />Chatfield Dam for the study reach of the South Platte <br />River. In addition, several conferences were held with <br />the U. S. Army Corps of ~ngineers District Office in <br />Omaha. <br /> <br />The U. S. Geological Survey was <br />historic flow informatio~ data. <br />in References 1, 2, and 3. <br /> <br />contacted to obtain <br />Relevant data appear <br /> <br />At a joint meeting with the Urban Drainage and Flood <br />Control District, the Federal Insurance Administration, <br />and the private engineering firm of Gingery & Asso- <br />ciates, Inc., the study teaches were clearly defined, as <br />was the methodology to b~ used in the study. An addi- <br />tional meeting was held in Washington, D. C., to further <br />clarify the purpose of t~e study and methods used for <br />flood plain delineation.'
