El Paso County has adopted regulations which require all
developments within designated floodway and floodway fringe
areas to be compatible with the County Land Use Plan and
Open Space Plan. Developments in flood-prone areas shall
not adversely affect the efficiency or unduly restrict the
capacity of the channels or floodways of any stream, trib-
utaries, drainage ditches or any other drainage facilities
or systems. Special precautions and actions must be taken
to raise the first flood elevations of residences, commercial
and industrial structures so as to be above the elevation
associated with the Intermediate Regional Flood. Other
provisions and standards are included pertaining to flood
proofing, basements, and protection against increases on the
water surface elevation due to flood plain encroachment.

* * * *

^ ~ ~J'i
.
