A small, shallow pond in the park is located just north of U. S.
Highway 6. This pond is periodically stocked by local organizations
sponsoring fishing contests for children. Ho~ver, because the pond
is only one-sixth of an acre in an=a and from 3 to 4 feet deep, it
does not support a fish population that is capable of sustaining
itself.

There is a small earth hem that is approximately 5 to 6 feet high
that protects the p:md area on the north and west sides during some
high-water and flood conditions. It appears to have been built out of
material excavated from the existing fisJ1ing pond.

Trails in the area are limited to approximately 2,200 feet of
tmimproved trail with the width varying from 6 to 8 feet. Ihere is
currently no safe way to cross the existing streams and no trail
developnent on the other side of the streams (figure 2). In addition,
vehicles have access to the trails, creating a hazard to pedestrians
and cyclists.

Parking is available south of the pond and on tJ1e east side near
the picnic area (figure 2). 'l'here is no delineation between the
pedestrian zone and vehicle parking. There are currently three metal-
frame picnic tables and a campfire grill on the site. No potable
water or toilet facilities are available.

PROPOSED <mDITHl'IS

The property and goals of SterLIng lend themselves
developnent once usage is established and monies become
The City has property located both north and south of U.S.

to phased
available.
Hi.ghway 6

8
