The Site mission has changed from nuclear weapons production to SNM management. waste managemen~
and environmental restoration. Nearly every building is anticipated to be decontaminated and
decommissioned over a period of several years; presenting the potential for release of additional
contamination from the Site.

Setting:
. Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, Golden. Colorado
. 6550 total acres: 640 acres of industrialized area surrounded by 5910 acres of Buffer Zone.
. Intermontane climate with 15 inches average annual precipitation.
. Native tall grass prairie, riparian woodland, upland wetland, and aquatic deep-water habitats.
. Drainage of interest for this study:
Walnut Creek, a perennial stream with 0.10 cfs basef!ow with annual yield ofabout 100 acre-feeL
,

Figure 1. The investigation described herein was developed to determine radionuc!ide
removal characteristics of the wet detention facilities, and to design stormwater control protocol to ens"re
that pond operations produce water quality in compliance with State stream standards.
