Within authorities of "406" and OMB Directive for Hazard <br />Mitigation Teams, continue outreach and ombudsman role <br />to promote an atmosphere of awareness and acceptance of <br />the following: flood hazard mitigation; FEMA's mitiga- <br />tion activities; the cost benefits of a viable hazard <br />mitigation program; and demonstrated successes by Region <br />VIII States in the mitigation area. <br /> <br />- Join mitigation or!ented professional organizations <br />and subscribe to newsletters and periodicals; <br /> <br />- Develop closer ties to the scientific and academic <br />organizations active in disaster and mitigation <br />research; <br /> <br />- Attend and participate in (via presentations and <br />papers) professional conferences. seminars and <br />workshops; <br /> <br />Develop articles for disaster and mitigation oriented <br />publications. <br /> <br />2. Coordinate with State Government to develop a viable <br />post-disaster State-wide flood hazard mitigation <br />program. Assure that Federal initiatives (i.e. 15-day <br />report, 406 requirement) are supplemental to, and in <br />concert with. State and local programs/efforts. <br /> <br />Promote the following concepts: <br /> <br />State/local Disaster Recovery Manager; <br /> <br />State Hazard Mitigation Teams; <br /> <br />Development of County/local hazard mitigation <br />plans (pre-post disaster); <br />
