II. BASIN CHARACTERISTICS

2.1 Location ,and Description

The Godding Hollow and Tri- Town Basins are located in the southwest corner of Weld
County approximately 15 miles north of the Denver metropolitan area. The adjoining basin limits
can be dermed by the Saint Vrain River on the north, Weld County Road 15 (WCR 15) on the
east, Weld County Road 8 on the south and Weld County Road 7 on the west. The drainage basin
boundaries are delineated on the vicinity map in Figure 2.1.
The total drainage area encompassed within the Godding Hollow Basin is estimated to be
12,419 acres of which approximately 11 percent is developed. Primary land use within the basin
is agricultural and comprises about 10,980 acres, Of the area that is developed, the land use
consists of low to medium density residential housing developments, a motorized race track, and
light to medium industrial development. Existing development is scattered throughout the basin
predominantly concentrated along the 1-25 corridor. Five jurisdictional entities control growth and
development within the Godding Hollow Basin, These entities include Weld County (9,420 acres
or 76%), Town of Firestone (510 acres or 4%), Town of Frederick (1,806 acres or 15%), City
of Dacono (509 acres or 4 %), and Town of Erie (174 acres or 1 %).
The total drainage area encompassed within the Tri-Town Basin is estimated to be 7,945
a~res, of which approximately 25 percent is developed. Primary land use within the basin is
agricultural and comprises about 5,920 acres, Of the area that is developed, the land use consists
of low, medium, and high density residential housing developments, parks and golf courses, and
light industrial/commercial development. Existing development is predominantly limited to the
area between WCR 18 on the north, WCR 15 on the east, WCR 12 on the south and WCR 13 on
the west. Within the Tri- Town Basin, four jurisdictional entities control growth and devf!lopment.
These entities include Weld County (3,900 acres or 49%), Town of Firestone (2,016 acres or
25 %), Town of Frederick (1,439 acres or 18 %), and City of Dacono (590 acres or 8%). The
existing corporate limits are delineated in Appendix A,

2,2 Drainage Features

Within the Godding Hollow Basin, the Godding Hollow channel is the most predominant
drainage feature, traversing the central portion of the basin in a northerly direction, Several minor
tributaries' exist within the watershed to collect and convey stormwater runoff into Godding
Hollow. Numerous county roads, state highways and irrigation canals cross Godding Hollow and
