Ms, Virginia Motoyama
July 24, 1992
Page 3

of old maps are recommended; the reVlSIOns would include corporate lirnits, streets,
correction of hydrologic or hydraulic mismatches between adjacent communities, and
utilization of existing floodplain data not included in the FrS, The second category includes
communities for which a new hydrologic and/ or hydraulic analysis is needed. That category
includes some communities for which no detailed analysis has been performed.

rn the Denver metropolitan area and in the Northern Front Range area we have
listed 25 communities for which the FrS' are out of date. There are incorporated
municipalities and unincorporated areas within the six Metro Area counties (Adams,
Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson Counties) and in Weld County, In each
of these counties (and in the municipalities within those counties) it would be possible to
make huge improvements to the FrS' without performing any new hydrologic or hydraulic
analyses, As you are aware, this matter was rai.st:d quite some time ago in a letter to your
predecessor (and now your immediate supervisor), Mr. Doug Gore. We still feel that it is
important that FrS' that are up to 15 years old b(~ updated to reflect urbanization that has
taken place and is currently taking place and to reflect readily available detailed floodplain
mapping prepared by other agencies, Attachment 4 discusses these 25 communities and
their restudy needs.

There are 12 more communities from various geographic regions of the state for
which we are recommending a restudy, Some or all of the streams in these communities
need to be studied for the first time, or they need to be restudied, The communities listed
by the regions in which they are located are:

Northern Front Range
Southern Front Range

Central and Northern
Mountains

Southwestern Mountains
Northwestern Colorado

Georgetown (Clear Creek)
Calhan (EI Paso)
Canon City (Fremont)
Fremont County

Avon (Eagle)
Gypsum (Eagle)
Eagle County
Blue River (Summit)
Breckenridge (Summit)
Silverthorne (Summit)
Telluride (San Miguel)
Glenwood Springs (Garfield)

Attachment 5 describes these 12 communities and their restudy needs.

1992 Priority List
