<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in Clear Creek County, <br />Colorado, and to aid in the administration of the Flood Insurance <br />Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. Initial <br />use of this information wi I I be to convert Clear Creek County to the <br />regular program of flood insurance by the Federal Insurance Ad- <br />ministration. Further use of the information wi I I be made by local <br />and regional planners in their efforts to promote sound land use and <br />flood plain development. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />A search for basic data was made at al I levels of government. <br />County officials provided a Planning Report entitled "A Program <br />for the Development of a Land and Resource Management Policy, <br />Clear Creek County, Colorado", developed by Chapman, Phi II ips, <br />Brant, Reddick, Inc. <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board, in conjunction with the <br />U.S. Geological Survey, has developed a manual for estimating <br />flood characteristics of natural-flow streams in Colorado. Infor- <br />mation taken from this manual during its development was uti I ized <br />in developing the flood flows used herein. <br /> <br />The Publ ic Service Company of Colorado provided the results of <br />the "Safety Inspecting Report for the Cabin Creek Pumped Storage <br />Hydroelectric Project" developed by Engineering Consultants, Inc. <br /> <br />The Colorado State Game, Fish and Parks Division supplied drawings <br />of the Georgetown Lake Dam location and Reservoir Area as compi led <br />by McCal I-EI I ingson Consulting Engineers. <br /> <br />The United States Geological Survey was contacted to obtain bench <br />mark locations and elevations, contour maps, aerial photos and <br />stream gage records for the Georgetown area. <br /> <br />The U.S. Forest Service provided updated maps of the Clear Creek <br />County a rea. <br /> <br />The Central Clear Creek Sanitation District through Wright-McLaughlin <br />Engineers provided 2 foot contour maps for portions of Clear Creek <br />and Mi II Creek. <br /> <br />4 <br />
