STATE OF COLORADO
Richard D. Lamm, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Jack R. Grieb, Director
6060 B road way
Denver, Colorado 80216 (825-1192)

!!~!!Q!~!~ll.M

TO: David Walker, Deputy Director
Colorado Water Conservation Board

FROM: Don Smith
Colorado Division of Wildlife

SUBJECT: Draft Report, Water Use and Management
Upper South Platte River Basin

DATE: May 19, 1982

The draft report is very well done and requires but few comments from
me. It would be useful to have a list of representatives on the Study
Coordination Committee appended and also a map of the water projects
listed on page 99. I have listed a few minor comments below:

Page

. Paragraph

Remarks

38

2

The description of the Colorado Big-T is too
detailed for this report. Compare with the
North Platte projects (pg. 34).

94

Table

There are two -1/ footnote symbols for habitat
maintenance.

99

Table 21

List Greyrocks Reservoir. Why isn't the Cache la
Poudre Unit in Colorado listed?

101

1

Mention that there is no adverse economic impact
in Wyoming, if this is the case.

106

2

The advisability of predicting future economic'
losses is questionable. We have been advised
by the Bureau of Reclamation to base wildlife
impacts from development only upon existing popu-
lations, not potential populations and losses.

111

2

The loss of 40% of the flows in the South Platte
would also adversely impact hundreds of fish and
wildlife species dependent upon this river.

DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Monte Pascoe, Executive Director' WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Donald Fernandez, Chairman
James Smith, Vice Chairman. Richard Divelbiss, Secretary. Jean K. Tool, Member. James C. Kennedy, Member
Michael Higbee, Member. Sam Caudill, Member. Wilbur Redden, Member
