<br />Guidelines for Applying <br />STANDARDS FOR ACQUISITION <br /> <br />Recommended <br /> <br />Not Recommended <br /> <br />The Environment <br /> <br />Developing, whenever possible, plans for the preser- <br />vation, maintenance, and compatible use of the prop- <br />erty prior to purchase of the property, <br /> <br />Acquiring sufficient property or easements to protect <br />the historic resource and its environment <br /> <br />Purchasing a structure with the intent of moving it <br />from its original site unless it has been clearly demon- <br />strated that the only feasible way to save the structure <br />is by moving it <br /> <br />Building Site <br /> <br />Insuring that all the property to be purchased is <br />included in the property's boundaries as defined in the <br />National Register of Historic Places. <br /> <br />Establishing the market value by having the property <br />appraised by an independent appraiser, recognized by <br />the American Institute of Appraisers. Properties over <br />$100,000 should receive two appraisals. <br /> <br />Insuring in the purchase of an archeological site that <br />sufficient property is acquired to include all significant <br />aspects of the archeological resource. <br /> <br />8 <br />
