We found it difficult to adequately respond to this information
request, because more specific information is needed to provide a focused data search.
The additional information needed includes project area, type of work to be performed,
project sponsor, and schedule.
.

Our records show that in December, Perry Loegering, Area Wildlife Manager in Slayton,
has been contacted directly about this project. He indicated Pipestone Creek is ditched in
the vicinity of the City of Pipestone and that the city experiences significant flooding
problems. Downstream of the city of Pipestone is the Pipestone National Monument and
the Pipestone Wildlife Management Area Poor water quality in Pipestone Creek appears
to be affecting riparian vegetation at the National Monument. The watershed upstream
of Pipestone is relatively small and intensively drained and fanned.

A print-out from the DNR Natural Heritage Information System is attached for your
information. There are 35 records of known occurrences in the project vicinity. Also
attached is an explanation of the format of the print-out.

If you require additional information from the DNR concerning this information request,
please contact Gail Fox from my staff at (612)296-0731. To provide more time for
review. please send any future environmental review correspondence directly to Thomas
Balcom, DNR Office of Planning, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4010.

Sincerely,
___./ t"') / f3'o.-k~
-i/1'~ IV, (

Thomas W.
