Designated Floodway is the Channel of a watercourse,and that <br />portion of the adjoining flood plainrequ1red to provide for the passage <br />of a selected flood with an insignificant increase in flood stage above <br />that of natural conditions. Normally, the lOO-year flood (one that has <br />a l-percent chance of occurrence in any given year) would be considered <br />as the selected flood. An "insignificant increase" is normally considered <br />to be no greater than 1 foot unless a smaller increase is established by <br />State or local regulation. <br />c. Flood Fringe is that portion of the flood plain between the <br />designated floodway and the natural outline of the selected flood. <br />(This land can be considered for development, provided the area is <br />either filled to a required elevation or other floodproofing measures <br />are applied to protect against the flood hazard condition.) <br /> <br />" <br />r <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />POLICY* <br /> <br />To establish a uniform approach to floodway determinations, the <br />following guidelinesl are to be used in the initial developmental stage, <br />unless State or local governmental regulations have more restrictive <br /> <br />requirements: <br /> <br />a.
