Thia watch will be followed by statements every few
hours on how the watch was evolving, or canceling it if
necessary.

The Denver office monitors the Arkansas River gage at
Canon City on a continual basis and would normally issue a
flood watch at Canon City if the river level was anticipated
to reach around 9 feet (5200 cfs). This is well below the
11,000 cfs required at Florence for Levell ao little action
would seem to be required at Florence for a flood watch for
the Canon City area.

(b) A FLOODWARHING (flooding which is expected to cause
loss of life or significant property damage is in progresa or
imminent) will also be prepared by the Denver office and
transmitted the same way, with estimates and times of future
river levela.

A flood warning for the Canon City - Florence area will
normally be iasued along the arkansaa River if the stage at
Canon City is expected to rise to 12 feet (13,000 cfs) or
more. this is well within Levell at Florence (aa Indicated in
this plan), but leaa than Level 2. In thia case, estimates of
future river levels and times at Canon City and downstream
would normally be provided. Hopefully theae would provide
information on the posaibility and timing of Level 2
conditions.

(c) A FLASH FLOOD WARRING is normally issued by the
Pueblo office for the Florence area if the Arkansas (or more
likely, the tributaries of the Arkanaaa) are expected to reach
levels where significant damage will occur. Theae forecaats
will normally be besed on the anticipation of future rainfall
in the area, and may not include forecaats of actual river
levels, especially on tributary streams, since in moat caaes
such streams are not gaged.

In addition to watches and warnings, river or flood
statements may be iasued by Denver or Pueblo to keep agencies
and the public apprised of river conditions.

3.2 Role of Fremont County Sber:l.ff's Densrtment

After notification from the National Weather Service or
if someone from the public, etc. haa called, it is the
Sheriff's Dispatcher's responaibility to notify the Fremont

6

= Flash Flood Watch
- "keep informed'

'" Flash Flood
Warning -
'take action
immediately'
