IDLEDALE WATER BE SANITATION DISTRICT
P.O. Box 171
Idledale. Colorado 80453

May 23, 1989

JEFFERSON COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION
18301 West 10th Avenue
Golden Colorado 80401

RE: SA89-3, Water Treatment 8uilding at the Corner of
East Grapevine and West Grapevine Roads

Dear Commissioners:

We have reviewed the comments from the Public Works Administrative Review
team, dated May 12, 1989, on the above referenced case and offer the following
in response:

1. The site in question was originally designated as Reservoir No, 3 on the
1920 plat of the Starbuck Heights Subdivision. At one time there was a
reservoir at this site. At present, we are planning to construct a small
building to house water treatment equipment to treat well water to remove
the radioactivity in the water, specifically uranium. It is very
important that this building and water treatment facilities be constructed
as soon as possible. At present, the water supply for the town is
dependent on the use of two of the town's four wells which are operating
on a temporary basis. The other wells cannot be tied into the system
until the facility is constructed. Already, the town is experiencing
water shortages. Also, one of the wells being used contains high levels
of uranium. .

,
2. The dedicated right-of-way for East Grapevine Road was originally 20 feet
when the plat was filed in 1920, and no changes have occurred since that
time. The area along East Grapevine Road has been built up for many years
and the existing road between houses is very narrow in most places. We
believe that the request for 30 feet from the road centerline is excessive
as compared with the existing road configuration and we request a waiver
of this requirement. All other comments can be accommodated.

Finally, we would very much appreciate a speedy approval of the site plan and
requested waivers so we can obtain the necessary building permit and complete
construction of the facility.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

.

IDLEDALE WATER AND SANITATION DISTRICT

~~ dl"1~ .fiv'

Barbara Wyatt, President
