Fred and Sara Muller - O",ners of Holiday
~otel, Gunnison

It is our understanding that previous floodplain information
studies similar to this study have not been conducted in the study area.
A limited work in connection with the ice jamming problems 1n Gunnison
River was performed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers in cooperation with
tbe U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Ice jam problems have been reported to occur in the Gunnison
River above 1I1ueMesa Reaervoir. Iceformingintberiveriscarr1ed

downstream to the reservoir as slush.

As tbis slush reacbes the rcs-

ervoir's iced surface, it may produce ice jams that tould potentially
move upstream depending On the river conditions and tlimatological fac-
tara affecting such a development.

During the fatl of t971, the Corps of Engineers completed a
clearing and snag removal operation upstream of the Blue Meaa Reservoir
and construction of bigher banks along the river. Additional clearing
at the upstream end of Blue Mesa Reservoir and removal of the river
banks upstream through the Cooper Ranch and Neversink properties was
completed in the summer of 1971.

Hr.
