The accounts of this flood <br />indicated significant residential and commercial property damage. and several bridges <br />were overtopped or washed out. State Highway 30 east and west ofPi~ne was under <br />water and U.S. Highway 75 north of Pipestone was passable with several portions under <br />water. Rainfall amounts and discharges were not available. <br /> <br />FLOOD OF 1969 <br />A storm on 10 April 1969 caused flooding across Pipestone County. Bridges and <br />roads were reportedly washed out. Residents were evacuated from their homes in <br />northem Pipestone. Rainfall amounts and discharges were not available. <br /> <br />FLOOD OF 1990 <br />During August of 1990. 2.39 inches of rain fell in the Pipestone area during a 24- <br />hour period. Damages and loss of property from flooded basements were reported; <br />however. major structural damage was not incurred. Discharges for this event were not <br />available. <br /> <br />FLOOD OF 1993 <br />More than 5 inches of rain fell in the Pipestone area during a 2-day period in May <br />1993. Pipestone County had 1.41 inches of rain on 6 May 1993 and 3.85 inches ofrain <br />on 7 May 1993. No serious injuries or loss of life were sustained as a result of the <br />flooding; however. considerable property damage was incurred. According to the local <br />newspaper. at least 44 homes and 5 businesses sustained some damage as a result of the <br />flood. The Pipestone City Engineer estimated this flood along Main Ditch to be greater <br />than a l00-year event. Flooding also occurred in July 1993. Rainfa1l amounts and <br />flooding in the July 1993 event in Pipestone were not nearly as significant as in the May <br /> <br />14 <br />
