The \Vater surface profiles and pertinent hydraulic design data are pre-

sented in Appendix II, "Hydraulic Design." Preproject flood plains are

shoun on plate 6 and postproject flood plains on plate 7.
24. Wolf Creek Diversion. The recol1lr.lended plan as shown on plate 7

1V0uld consist of a levee on the alignment of the existing levee along

Wolf Creek \Vi th an outfall channel to the Arkansas River, This \Vould

extend from high ground on the right bank south of U.S. High\Vay SO and

continue past State HighIVay Sl to the northeast. The proposed diversion

1V0uld be designed to convey the peak discharge of the standard project

flood of 41,000 c.f.s. past Granada. For economy of the p'roject, the

design of the outfall channel \'/ould be for a discharge less than SPF.

25. Existing Conditions. The capacity of the existing levee syster.l

that extends from about 1/3 mile south of Colorado State lligll1{ay SO to

the AT&SF Railroad Bridge is about 12,500 c.f.s. TI\is section of leyee

is the main protection for the to<vn of Granada. The' levce is fron the

north side of the AT&SF Railroad Bridge northeast to Colorado State

lIighIVay51 Ilridge then continues east for about 1-1/2 miles. ;\'ith the

existing levee system the to,m of Granado is protected from floods of

standard project flood magnitudcs on the Arkansas River.

26. Interior Drainage. TIle slope of the land in the vicinity of

Granada is in an easterly direction.. ll1is generally naintains good drainage

of water a"lay from the existing levee. 1l0IVever, ponding areas are presently

formed by the existing levee at stations 57+00 and 97+00. TIlese I.;ill reOlain

after construction of the proposed leve'e and an additional ponding area wi II

be formed at station 86+00. The drainage areas for these ponds lire snaIl

and minimUr.l size outlets or lateral ditches \Vill alleviate the ponding.

12
