Ten-year and lOO-year flood profiles

show the water depths relative to the stream bed. The flood

profiles and flooded area data presented are based upon future,

developed conditions in the basin, as determined from current

master planning maps. possible future improvements to control

floods are not a consideration of this report.

The information presented herein does not imply any State

action to zone or regulate the use of flood plains. The District

has the authority to regulate flood plains, but to date has

chosen to leave the responsibility of flood plain regulation with

local governments. The report provides a suitable basis for the

adoption of land use controls to guide flood plain management.

Flood water surface elevations and flood plain boundaries

are often revised by road and bridge construction, flood plain

development, flood control improvements, or natural processes.

Prior to utilization of this report for planning or design

purposes, the user is advised to contact the Urban Drainage and

Flood Control District to determine whether or not the infor-

mation in this report has been amended.

Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, the City of Thornton
and Adams County.
The survey control, aerial photography, topographic mapping,
and the preparation of the base plan and profile sheets used in
this report were prepared by Landmark Mapping Company, Lakewood,
Colorado, under a separate contract with the Urban Drainage and
Flood Control District.

II. GENERAL BASIN DESCRIPTION

Brantner Gulch Basin
The Brantner Gulch watershed lies within the northeasterly
portion of the Thornton City Limits and the westerly portion of
Adams County. Its location is more specifically shown on Figure
16. The drainage basin consists of gradually sloping land
at the west end, rolling hills in the middle areas and relatively
level land at the east end near the South Platte River.
The basin is drained by one principal channel - Brantner
Gulch. The channel has formed into its present natural state
west of Riverdale Road over many years.

Acknowledgments

This report has been prepared by Sellards & Grigg, tnc., Con-

sulting Engineers, Lakewood, Colorado, under contract with the
