<br />On January 25, 1979, an intermediate coordination meeting was held <br />to discuss the progress of the study and the limits of work. In <br />attendance were representatives of the City of Montrose, FEMA, the <br />CWCB, and the study contractor. <br /> <br />The following agencies and individuals were contacted and supplied <br />information used in the preparation of this study, <br /> <br />u.s. Geological Survey <br />U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District <br />CWCB (State Coordinator) <br />Colorado Department of Highways <br /> <br />The final community coordination meeting was held on March 28, <br />1983, and was attended by representatives of FEMA, the study contrac- <br />tor, the city, and local media. No problems were acknowledged at <br />tha t time. <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study was revised in 1985 to show detailed <br />study along Cedar Creek and along Montrose Arroyo at its confluence <br />with Cedar Creek. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the incorporated areas of the <br />City of Montrose, Montrose County, Colorado. The area of study is <br />shown on the Vicini ty Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />The Uncompahgre River, Montrose Arroyo, and Cedar Creek were studied <br />in detail within the City of Montrose. <br /> <br />Those areas studied by detailed methods were chosen with considera- <br />tion given to all proposed construction and forecasted development <br />through 1990. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />Montrose County is located in the west-central portion of Colorado <br />and contains approximately 2,229 square miles of land area. The <br />City of Montrose is located in the eastern portion of Montrose <br />County, and is the largest city in the county as well as the county <br />seat. The City of Montrose is surrounded by unincorporated areas <br />of Montrose County. <br /> <br />The Ute Indians were the earliest residents of western Colorado. <br />In 1868, the Utes were relocated to a reservation that included <br /> <br />2 <br />
