I
I
I
I
I
,I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

SECTION VIII

MASTER PLAN

A. GENERAL

Included in this report as Appendix B, are the master plan
drawings in the form of plan and profile sheets, outlining
the selected plan for Slaughterhouse Gulch. It is important
that the users of the drawings understand the accuracy,
intended use and limitations of the drawings as presented.

The accuracy of the proposed design is highly influenced by
the intended use of the drawings. The statement on Sheet 1
summarizes the situation as follows: "The information por-
trayed on the following drawings is for planning purposes
only and is intended to provide the capability for staged
development of a total compatible drainage system. The draw-
ings are not to be construed as final design drawings nor are
they to be used for construction purposes." The information
portrayed on the sheets is sufficiently accurate to allow for
staged development in separated portions of the channel with
the assurance that the constructed facility will be compati-
ble with the overall system when the design is completed.
Individual improvements and private development may proceed
in the areas on and adjoining the Gulch with the assurance
that facilities constructed will also be compatible with the
overall drainage system when completed.

It is not intended that the information portrayed on the
drawings for the recommended improvements be of sufficient
detail to justify a final design of individual structures
without extra detailed investigations of surrounding utili-
ties, street grades, house elevations, soils information and
other factors necessary for final design.

The accuracy of the maps is certainly sufficient to complete
preliminary planning. Because of the high accuracy of the
maps, very little field surveying work has been completed to
supplement the elevations on the map. The degree of accuracy
for the aerial topography mapping is that 90% of the contours
be within 1/2 the contour interval of the actual elevation.
This means that the average contour interval on these maps
may be off by approximately '1/2 foot and that others may be
off by as much as 1 foot. Mapping was completed during the
latter part of November at which time tree cover is minimal
and the accuracy of the mapping should be very good. In the
design of drainage facilities, vertical elevation is very
critical and it is imperative that exact elevations be defined
during final design.

The mapping which we have used to complete the preliminary
design for Slaughterhouse Gulch is more than accurate
enough to define the various stream profiles and flood pro-
files characteristic of the stream. The flood profiles are

VII 1-1
