A
formal energy dissipator may be formed of concrete if
deemed necessary where extreme velocities are encountered.

5. Existing Utilities - Available information on existing
san~tary sewers, storm sewers, water lines, gas lines
and telephone conduits are represented on the master
plan sheet. Inaccuracies and inadequacies in the avail-
able information are inevitable.

Field surveys to verify utility locations and elevations
must be completed prior to final design of any portion
of the project.

6.

Natural Channels - In areas where natural channels are
to be reta~ned and right-of-way permits accessed, minor
improvements should be made to stabilize low flow channel
erosion problems. Also, areas of high velocities during
extreme flood flows should be structurally controlled.
In all cases, the natural channel should be adequate
for conveying the 100 year runoff. .

Irrigation Ditches - All major irrigation ditches should
be separated from the drainageway. Adequate ditch spill
points should be provided at the drainageway crossing.
Such spill structures should not interfere or damage
flood conveyance systems.

7.

8.

Conduit Inlets - The design of improved sewer inlets
must be a cording to accepted standards. Special problems
must be recognized and resolved for each inlet. All
design should be based on the criteria in the storm
sewers and major drainage sections of the Urban Storm
Drainage Criteria Manual.

Local Storm Draina!e - The master plan does not deal
d~rect1y w~th the oca1 storm drainage problems. With
the knowledge of this master plan, local drainage
problems can now be resolved in a manner consistent
with the proposed plan.

9.

B. MAINTENANCE CONSIDERATIONS

A primary concern to any urban drainage system is the prov~s~on
for a continuous maintenance program. All drainage systems need
to be maintained to assure their design adequancy at the time
of need.

VII - 3
