<br />B.) Description of the Report Area <br />The Big Dry Creek Drainage Basin consists of approximately <br />12,500 acres. It extends over 15 miles in length from the up- <br />lands area in Douglas County to its confluence with the South <br />Platte River in Englewood. (See Plate No. I, Appendix, Volume 2 <br />Drawings) . <br />The source of the Big Dry Creek lies in Douglas County <br />about five and one-half miles south of the Arapahoe-Douglas <br />County Line in Section 31, Township 6 South, Range 67 West of <br />the 6th P.M. In the upper reaches of the Basin, there arc <br />numerous tributaries to the main channel. Several of the s~all <br />dams located in the upper reaches are flood damaged, and arc <br />either filled with silt, or are breached and arc no longer <br />serving their primary function as livestock watering ponds. <br />Most of the drainage basin and channel in Douglas County is under <br />private ownership except for the soutJl1Vestern quarter of Section ]6, <br />T6S, R67W which is State school property. Most of the basin area <br />in Douglas County is used for cattle grazing. The McArthur Ranch <br />Subdivision is being developed into about five acre lots in <br />Sections 20 and 21, T6S, R67W. <br />The Big Dry Creek channel passes through the South Suburban <br />Golf Course as it enters Arapahoe County. In this area, the <br />channel has been retained primarily in its natural state. <br />Continuing downstream, the channel passes through the north- <br />eastern corner of Section 36, T5S, R681',', which is currently <br />undeveloped open land. North of Dry Creek Road, the channel <br />passes through Cherry Knolls P:nk along its entire coune through <br /> <br />4 <br />
