SAMPLE PROBLEM
SCS CURVE NUMBER TECHNIQUE

Problem Statement

Using the SCS Curve Number Technique, cumpute the existing hydrologic sub-

basin parameters for the Trail Creek Watershed utiliting values of average

surface slope. Do not suppress any of the subbasin output.

The format of the data file in the Trail Creek DATA BANK is (12F4.0, 2F8.2,
2F4.0, 2F2.0). The curve numbers that have been adopted for the land use
categories are tabulated in Table l. Table 2 contains the stream length and
the stream slope for each subbasin. The average slope values are given in
Table 3 and Table 4 is a listing of the data base file incorporated in the
Trail Creek Watershed.

Description of Input Requirements

The key input variables for this computation 're IANL (Jl.l), described in
detail later in this section, which identifies the type of calculation and
ISLP (J2.7) for indicating inclusion of the SL card(s). It should be noted
that the alphanumeric characters within the parenthesis following the variable
name refer to particular cards and related card columns. As an example, the
first two alphanumeric characters of (Jl.l) indicate the Jl-card and the
character(s) following the decimal point indicates a particular field (or
card cGlumn group).

Coding sheets have been included in this sample problem. On these sheets are

recorded the Curve Number values (LU cards) taken from TABLE 1. Subbasin data,

Table 2, are coded for key punching on the SB cards, while the average slope

values, Table 3, are input for inclusion on the SL card(s).

Exhibit 3-3
1 of l8
