COLORADO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WEEK
July 7-13, 1996

WHEREAS, emergency manageme.nt depends on the leadership
and efforts of public officials, dedicated
volunteers, professional associations and
private and government employees; and

WHEREAS, Colorado has experienced the physical
emotional consequences of the loss of life
damage to property caused by disasters of
types; and

WHEREAS, the capability to respond to emergencies and
disasters to minimize loss of life, suffering
and property damage can be achieved through a
strong comprehensive emergency management
system; and

WHEREAS, by being informed and prepared and by heeding
warning and taking proper protective action,
the people of Colorado can reduce the loss of
life and damage to property when natural or
technological events threaten them; and

WHEREAS, the Natural Hazards Center Workshop and the Big
Thompson Symposium will be held in Colorado on
July 7-13, 1996;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Roy Romer, Governor of Colorado,
proclaim July 7-13, 1996, as
