Gingery is currently doing a flood hazard
study for the Colorado Water Conservation Board (State Coordination Agency)
and will be developing all four profiles on both the Colorado and Roaring
Fork. ' They will not be developing the floodway for CWCB but a cursory
analysis by Gingery will probably show that the floodway is contained by
the channel banks. On July 24, 1977, approximately 1. 8 inches of rain fell
in 30 minutes and caused some large mud slide (flow) areas, especially on
the east side of the city, Early damage estimates were $2,000,000. Even
though much of the damage was caused by mud and debris and the drainage areas
are generally much less than one square mile in area, we should study these
areas by the approximate method and delineate the hazard areas as Zone A
--
rather than B unless we can begin to use Zones M or N.
-
-
. ..+....'6
. /'
Coplos to: Washington, D.
