<br />Floodprone lands upstream of Colorado Highway No. 55 will <br />be provided flood protection. <br /> <br />The Town of Crook will receive protection from flood. <br /> <br />The river will be stabilized in its p,esent alignment, <br /> <br />Existing flood control measures will be saved and <br />reconditioned. <br /> <br />Streambank erosion will be reduced. <br /> <br />Channel sedimentation and ground water problems should be <br /> <br />lessened. <br /> <br />: <br /> <br />This reach of the South Platte River in Logan County has <br />annual flood-related problems, and the flood risk is an economic <br />impact to the communities of Crook and Logan County. with the <br />state's agricultural economy on a decline, these flood-related <br />problems are placing an additional economic burden on the area. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> <br />The study reach has been subjected to severe flood and <br />erosion risks in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's which has posed <br />serious flood problems to the communities of Logan County and the <br />Town of Crook, <br /> <br />It is recommended that the communities pursue seeking <br />technical and financial assistance to recondition the existing <br />flood control structures which were constructed by local <br />landowners and the Colorado Division of Wildlife. These <br />structures can still be reconditioned; whereas, additional high <br />waters and floodings will completely destroy these structures. <br /> <br />'" <br /> <br />The cost of providing flood control protection to the Town <br />of Crook and adjacent agricultural lands appears to be beyond the <br />capability of individuals; Therefore, a cooperative effort is <br />required of the town of Crook, Logan County, State and Federal <br />agencies and local landowners. <br /> <br />.: <br /> <br />-13- <br />
