Reach III - Highway No. 348 upstream to Church Avenue

Reach IV - Church Avenue to the Upstream Study limit.

SE]~ECTED PLAN

The plan which has been developE~d for each study reach,

considers the erosive forces of the river; incorporates the 1984

emergency protection measures; provides a minimum 50-year flood

protection downstream of Church Avenue; provides 100-year flood

protection upstream of Church Avenue; provides certain

recreational opportunity; reduces annual channel maintainenance

costs; and meets Federal and State design standards. Typical

designs have been prepared for the project features which are
shown on Exhibits 2 and 3. A description of the project elements
by reach is as follows:

REACH I

Prior to the 1984 peak flows, the right streambanks (east)

at the town's lagoons were protected by a number of rock jetties

and riprappi.ng to prevent erosion and destruction of the town's

lagoon dikes. Due to the 1984 flood conditions, the channel is

directed in a northeasterly direction and is threatening the

southern dikes of the lagoon. This threat can be controlled by

-12.-
