I I I I , I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF REPORT The purpose of this report is to present the findings of a reconnaissance investigation regarding the development of viable measures to lessen the surface flooding and sub-surface drainage problems for the Town of Crook. Colorado. Solutions and improvement measures were selected which will complement existing studies and projects. The flood and drainage problems which were addressed by this investigation are: 1) Cleaning and increasing the capacity of the North Drainage Channel. 2) Lowering the groundwater level for the corporate areas of the town, and 3) Providing flood protection by extending the South Platte Levee System. The findings and recommendations of this investigation will be used by the Town of Crook to implement a plan-of-improvement which will mitigate economic losses from surface and sub-surface drainage problems. LIMITS OF STUDY The study reaches for this investigation and report are: o North Drainage Channel - For a length of 10.000 feet commencing one mile east of Crook and traversing adjacent to the northside of the Highway No. 138 Right-of-Way; thence following the old (1933) channel alignment westerly along the northside of Crook to the coqnty road crossing; thence south to the Highway No. 138 Right-of-Way; thence westerly paralleling the northside Right-of-Way a distance of 1000 feet. The construction easements will follow the 1933 CDOH alignment. o Flood Protection Levee - For a length of 6500 feet commencing at Highway No. 55; thence extending westerly along the established Right-of-Way south of the Harmony Ditch to station 82+00. These alignments are presented on Plate No.4. DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY AREA Crook is located in Northeastern Colorado approximately 28 miles northeast of Sterling.
