<br />To preserve and enhance the quality of
<br />life through planning, construction, opera.
<br />tion, and management 01 the CRSP and
<br />participating projects, social assessment
<br />continued to be expanded to all basin
<br />projects. In addition to the social effects
<br />of economic and employment oppor-
<br />tunities provided through irrigation,
<br />power generation and industrial water,
<br />the development of land and water fOr
<br />municipal, recreation, and fish and
<br />wildlife purposes is also affected. Major
<br />studies involving the Central Utah
<br />Project's Uintah and Upalco Units were
<br />completed in 1978. From an inventory of
<br />more than 150 sites. a preliminary ap-
<br />praisal level investigation of approxi-
<br />mately 50 potential peaking power sites
<br />was completed as part of the CRSP peak-
<br />ing power investigations.
<br />Also: - In-house studies utilizing the
<br />Bureau of Reclamation Economic and
<br />Assessment Model (BREAM) are in
<br />process on the Dominguez, West Divide,
<br />and Animas-La Plata Projects.
<br />
<br />A 4.par1 social and economic contract for
<br />dealing with Central Utah Project's Ute
<br />Indian Unit alternatives, funded with
<br />$144,000 in FY78 monies, is in process.
<br />Programs to seek publiC involvement and
<br />assess social impacts were expanded,
<br />Both were used in the Ute Indian Unit
<br />investigatIon. All three project offices in-
<br />
