COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING MINUTES
Holiday Inn
Grand Junction, Colorado

August 1, 1974

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Stapleton, Chairman, at
10:00 a.m.

I

Mr. Stapleton: We will call the meeting of the Colorado Water Con-
servation Board to order. We do not need to approve any minutes at
this meeting. I might say for the archives, that ~k. Sparks and I
have been busy signing all of the minutes of the board meetings.
They are all being put on microfilm as part of the archives of state
government.

Before we start, Larry, do you have some announcements you would like
to make?

Mr. SEarks: Yes, Mr. Chairman. We have a special luncheon set up
for the board and any of the guests here who would like to attend
this luncheon. The price of that luncheon is $2.50.

For the Dick Williams dinner tonight, the tickets are also available
in the back of the room for those of you who would like to attend
that dinner in honor of former board member, Dick Williams. Those
tickets are $7.00.

For the trip tomorrow, the Parachute Creek tour, we have chartered
a bus. We have some room left on the bus. For those of you who
have cars, who want to go on north or east after the tour, we will
make arrangements so that you can leave your cars in Grand Valley.

Mr. Stapleton: Thank you, Larry. At the last meeting in Craig I
introduced a new member of the water board, John Benton. I will
introduce him again. Do you have any comments that you would like
to make?

Yrr. Benton: No, I don't.

Mr. Stapleton: All right. For some of the gentlemen that will be
making presentations today, some of us have been on the water board
. for many years. Even in those early years shale oil was coming on
the scene immediately. We geared up our water resource evaluation
and inventory and it was still a distant star in the future. If I
read the papers correctly, the star is becoming quite a bit brighter.

The water board is interested in the methods of oil shale development,
particularly as they relate to our water resources. We are anxious
to have the presentations. So the water board has set aside virtually
this whole meeting today and the trip tomorrow to become better
acquainted with the problems of industry in developing oil shale.

I
