~_v

MR. STAPLETON:

"I think we should have a definite .
monthly meeting date and be informed as
to what was going to be on the agenda and
what was to be considered."

MR. MOSES:

"How do the members feel about setting
a definite date for monthly or regular
meetings?"

I

MR. McCANDLESS:

"At least we could set the date for
the following meeting at each meeting."

A short discussion on future meetings was held but
no definite date was decided upon although it was generally
understood that the Board would be called more frequently in
the future.

MR. MOSES:

"I think we have discussed recommenda-
tions (a) and (b) of Mr. McClellan's report.
I presume that (c) will depend, to a larqe
extent, on how we come out on (a) and (bJ."

General discussion was held on matching funds with
the Federal Government for investigative studies.

Mr. Nelson spoke of Mr. Read Black's request for-him
to work on a priority list in his area. He said that he had
asked the Colorado River Water Conservancy District and the
Southwestern Water Conservancy District to prepare such a list
and he wished to present it to the Board at this time as it
tied in with Mr. McClellan's report. Mr. Moses asked him to
defer it for a short time.

Mr. Moses welcomed members of the U. S. G. S. who
were in attendance at the.meeting and read Mr. McClellan's
recommendation to accelerate the program with the U. S. G. S.
Mr. Thad McLaughlin of the U. S. G. S. gave the estimated
cost as of two years ago for making Colorado River water,
studies at $2,000,000 but said this estimate was low now due
to increased costs of salaries, etc. He also said that two
years from now, or perhaps sooner, maybe next year, they
could use increased matching funds from Colorado. When asked
if the U. S. G. S. could match the sum of $100,000 for this I
fiscal year, Mr. McLaughlin replied that he seriously doubted
if the Federal could match that amount nor would there be
enough personnel to use such an amount. However, he feels
that an increase could be made both in funds and personnel in
approximately two years or perhaps in the coming year.
